This southwest advent calendar shows a Navajo mother holding a little lamb and a couple of young Navajo children on a horse.  2014 is the Year of the Horse, and 2015 the Year of the Sheep. Both horses and sheep were brought to the western hemisphere in the 16th century by the Spanish and were adopted by native people. There are twenty-four numbered doors to open each day from December 1st till Christmas Eve. Behind each door is a picture and words to encourage children to think about life using the setting of the remote desert of the American Southwest, the home of the Navajo, who call themselves Diné.
