Delia Gauchupin is a Jemez Pueblo Indian. Jemez is about an hour and fifteen minutes drive from Santa Fe. Delia makes several popular and affordable pottery ornaments, using clay she digs from the earth. This ornament is in the shape of an adobe pueblo home, with an outdoor horno(adobe oven). Hornos are used to bake the oven bread served at pueblo feast day. Red chile ristras hang from the vigas, the roof beams protruding through the wall of the home. Delia often adds the Zia sun symbol to the façade. The ornament is three and a quarter inches wide (8 cm.).
