Delia Gauchupin is a Jemez Pueblo Indian. Jemez is about an hour and fifteen minutes drive from Santa Fe. Delia makes several popular and affordable pottery ornaments, using clay she digs from the earth. This ornament is in the shape of the state of New Mexico. In the center of the state, Delia puts the Zia design seen on the state flag. She also adds N.M., just in case you don’t already know. Surrounding the Zia symbol are feather designs and kiva step designs. On the back of the ornament is another traditional Jemez Pueblo pottery design. These are among the most popular of Delia’s ornaments. The ornament is two inches wide (5 cm.).
