Mary Lucero is a talented potter from Jemez Pueblo. Her work sells quickly. This three piece nativity by Mary has distinctive touches, like the position of the legs of the seated Joseph, his traditional hair style, and his turquoise ring. Mary is kneeling, her moccasins beneath her black manta, the traditional pueblo women’s dress. Her shawl has lovely painted designs; her flowing black hair flows over her shoulder. She wears her own turquoise jewelry. Little Baby Jesus is squirming happily in his bed, with his arms raised as if he wants to be picked up. And he can be picked up out of his pottery bed lined with cotton. The tallest figure is four inches tall (10 cm.).
