Judy Toya is a potter at Jemez Pueblo who makes nativities from native clay she digs from the earth. This nativity has a lovely background wall which sets the scene in a pueblo. The wall has pottery vigas, roof beams, protruding from the wall. Around each viga is a painted design. The painted doorway in the middle of the wall is also painted with similar designs. The figures include Mary, Joseph and baby, as well as a shepherd with a staff and three wise men with their pueblo gifts of corn and pottery. Four animals complete the set. The highest point of the wall is four inches (10 cm.).
