Mary Sabaquie is from Jemez Pueblo. She makes pottery nativities, and this is the first one we have from her. Mary is kneeling, dressed in a traditional black mantas with silver and turquoise jewelry, and she wears a pueblo shawl over her head and shoulders. Joseph also kneels, and he has a folded blanket over one shoulder, the sign of a formal occasion. The little baby is beneath a blanket with a zigzag design. A few small animal figures complete the set. The tallest piece is six inches inches tall (15 cm.).
