Mapoo is from Isleta Pueblo, south of Albuquerque on the Rio Grande River. She has shown her work at Indian Market for many years. Her large nativity includes a whit pottery wall as a background. A few wooden vigas project from the wall, and from these beams hang ears of Indian corn, strung horizontally, and a pottery canteen. A tall wooden ladder leans against the wall. Mary is dressed in a black pueblo dress called a manta. Joseph holds a wooden staff. The baby rests beneath a pottery blanket beautifully painted with traditional Isleta designs. The three wise men carry gifts of value in the pueblo world, turquoise, moccasins, and a folded blanket. Four animals complete the scene. The wall is six inches tall (15 cm.).
