Five Piece Nativity by Angel Bailon of Santo Domingo Pueblo

Out of stock

Angel Bailon was born at Jemez Pueblo, but she married into the Santo Domingo Pueblo, so her work is considered Santo Domingo Pueblo pottery. This nativity by Angel has Mary seated with her feet in front of her and holding the Baby Jesus in her arms. Her shawl and her dress are painted with traditional Santo Domingo designs. Joseph wears a folded blanket over his right shoulder, a sign of a formal occasion. Three pottery animals accompany this nativity, a cow, a donkey and a sheep. Their faces each have the sweet expression typical of Angel’s animals. The tallest figure is four inches tall (10 cm.).
