Oaxaca is famous for colorful folk art. Painted tin is one of the specialties of the region in the isthmus of Mexico. This tin nativity is by a talented tinsmith, Arturo Sosa. His nativity figures stand independently on an adjustable base of tin folded behind them. The two palm trees are an unusual and welcome feature. The angel has a special gentle gesture. Mary and Joseph kneel beside the tin bed. The three wise men carry their gifts. A shepherd hold his staff beside the ox and the ass. It is unusual to have a tin nativity of such large size and distinguished style. The tallest figure is eight inches tall (20 cm.).
