San Miguel Catholic Church at San Miguel is south of Las Cruces, New Mexico. It began in a small shack in 1879 when local families met around an image of the Archangel San Miguel. A simple adobe chapel was constructed in 1898. Then, in 1927, a new church was constructed of dark volcanic rock from nearby Mesa Prieta. This church was destroyed by fire in 1983, but the present church was rebuilt using the same volcanic rock. You could say that rock has seen fire twice, once in the volcano that erupted to send it onto the surface of the earth, and once again when it survived a fire to become a church once more.
