Taos Pueblo Pottery Ornament
This pottery ornament, by Misty Ortiz, is from Taos Pueblo and looks like Taos Pueblo. Taos Pueblo is an ancient multi-storied adobe apartment structure in a village, said to be a thousand years old.
Each floor of this apartment has doors. A ladder provides access to the higher levels. The artist, Misty Ortiz is a Taos Pueblo Indian. The clay is micaceous, which means there are flecks of glitter in it. The ornament was fired outside in the traditional way, so it has a "fire cloud". a darker spot. Fire clouds were once thought to be flaws when they occur in the firing of pottery, but now they are viewed as a guarantee that the firing was done outside instead of in a kiln. The ornament is 3 1/4 inches wide (9 cm.) and 2 inches tall (4 cm.). It would be a nice addition to any southwest Christmas Tree.
